We will learn what Service Ontario is; what services they provide and where they are located.

May 9, 2012 (9:45 am - 10:45 am) Immigrant and Newcomer Information Session: Brian French from the C-K Police & Fire Dispatch Center will come to talk about 911 procedures

Brian will teach us what 911 is, what to expect when you call 911 and how to follow procedures during a call.

May 15, 2012 (6:00 pm - 7:00 pm) Immigrant and Newcomer Information Session: Shopping on a budget

We will discuss how to shop on a budget, where to look and when to buy. We will discuss Second Hand Shopping as well.

May 22, 2012 (6:00 pm - 7:00 pm) Immigrant and Newcomer Information Session: Debt Free Living

We will show you strategies to live debt free, different ways to save money and where you go to get help.

We will learn what Service Ontario is; what services they provide and where they are located.

April 10 & 11, 2012 (9:45 am - 10:45 am) Immigrant and Newcomer Information Session: Survival Guide for parents: Sleepovers

We will show you the pros and cons of having a sleepover; we will expose to you the different cultural views of children’s sleepovers. And we will also discuss what genders are more likely associated with sleepovers.

April 16 & 25, 2012 (9:45 am - 10:45 am) Immigrant and Newcomer Information Session: Renewing your Permanent Resident Card (P.R.)

We will discuss the importance of why you need to renew your P.R. Card; when to renew it; which documents are required to renew your P.R. And what happens after you send your application to CIC.

Come and join us as Special Constable Charlene Mitchell from the C-K Police Department comes to discuss cyber bullying. Join us as they discuss what it is, how it works, what prevention measures are in place and how to be safe on the internet.

January 6 & 27, 2012 (9:45 am - 10:45 am) Immigrant and Newcomer Information Session: Protecting Children on the Internet

We will be discussing the dangers of the internet. We will show you how to teach your children online security basics, how to block specific websites and why it is important to know their passwords.

January 9 & 11, 2012 (9:45 am - 10:45 am) Immigrant and Newcomer Information Session: Talking to your doctor

We will teach you what to bring to your first doctor’s visit, and whether or not you should take an interpreter with you. We will be discussing the importance and how to do a follow up with your doctor and which questions you should be asking your doctor.

Anne-Marie McGregor the OCASI Marketing Senior Coordinator wil come to Adult Language and Learning to demonstrate how to use Settlement.org.

We will be discussing what counselling is, what services are available and what the related costs could be. Find out if you are eligible to receive counselling.

Jennifer Johns from Social Housing will be coming to talk about what social housing is; how to apply for social housing and what the tenant and landlord rights are.

Learn what services Service Canada provides, how to apply for them and if you are eligible for their services.

December 13, 2011 (9:45 am - 12:30 am) Immigrant and Newcomer Information Session: Blood Pressure Clinic

Sonia Teeuwen RN from the Chatham Kent Community Health Centre will come to our Centre to run a Blood Pressure Clinic. With your consent she will be taking your blood pressure and she wil also be discussing the causes, symptoms and complication of having a high blood pressure.

Adult Language and Learning will once again be hosting their Canadian Citizenship Preparation Workshop every Tuesday night from November 1 to December 20, 2011. If your Citizenship Test is approaching fast and you’re not quite sure if you are ready to pass it, then this workshop is for you.
